Desert Flora

Chihuahua is in an arid climate and, except for areas that are irrigated, is covered in dried brown brush. Most of the city is encased in cement or mountainous rocky soil and green spaces are a rarity. Quite the opposite from the 40 shades of green we saw on our Ireland trip this past summer! Because flowers seemed so rare I made it my mission to take pictures of as many flowers and trees as I could find.

There were many, many palm trees. And believe it or not, I saw my first real-life palm tree on this trip!
Many houses we passed by had at least one or two pots of flowers outside. This particular house had a lovely row of rose bushes.

The hotel had beautiful landscaping. There was honeysuckle climbing on the two-story walls on my side of the compound, and other ivys climbing on other buildings. There were tall, old cacti, and lots of tropical flowers. I can’t imaging what their water bill cost!
