Ryan and I are experimenting with food again, and this time we’re eating raw. No, not raw hamburger or anything like that; we’re incorporating more fresh fruits and veggies into our diet. We’re using the Raw Food Detox Diet as a guide for meal plans and general instructions. The main goal is not to eat raw just to say we eat raw; rather, the goal is to clean out our body’s cells. When we eat processed food (Twinkies, potato chips, mac & cheese, etc.), our bodies can’t completely process it so toxins are left behind in our cells. The theory is that these toxins are what make us sick and cause disease. My personal goal is to clean my cells so that they can heal and I won’t need any medicine anymore.
We started this past Monday and after a week we’re noticing some changes. At first it was like we were going through withdrawal with headaches and feeling weak. We weren’t starving ourselves (in fact, we had more food than we could eat), but I think our bodies were wondering where all the processed sugars were. Each day we have fresh fruit juice and fresh fruit until lunch time, then add in grains at lunch, and add in meat at dinner. Combining foods in the right order ensures that it will be digested efficiently.
Eating raw means lots of produce and lots of cleaning and chopping. The knives and cutting board have never gotten this kind of workout! We use a blender to make the salad dressings and the salads are chopped fruits, veggies, and nuts. Check out the Ambrosia salad with Liquid Gold Elixir dressing. It has bell pepper, carrots, beets (not canned), zucchini, jalapeño, ginger, garlic, apples, walnuts, cilantro, and mint. The golden dressing had lemons, olive oil, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and honey. I am NOT a vegetable person and I loved this salad!
While we probably will never go 100% raw or vegan, we will definitely incorporate a lot of the recipes and concepts from the Raw Food book. Did I mention that we get chocolate for dessert?
