I found a fantastic website today!! It uses charts and graphs to explain national issues (what happens when the government spends more than it brings in?). This site was put together by none other than chart master Ross Perot. These charts show why these issues are important to every American, regardless of political affiliation. Check out the presentation (charts with explanation) or just browse over the charts on the site.
Ok, I know that this sounds totally boring to most people (and some of you are already thinking, “My mind is made up, don’t confuse me with the facts”), but this is something that every American should have a basic understanding of and this website does a great job making it easy to understand.
I’m a “numbers” kind of person. I don’t have much patience for emotional or persuasive arguments, and I certainly don’t put up with political opinions that are not fact-based. I appreciate this site for just presenting the numbers. Most people will filter this information through a lens that is handed to them by their political party of choice. Most often these “lenses” are just fancy spin, or propaganda, that take the focus off the truth and on to emotion. This presentation gives you the facts direct from their sources, with no spin. Where politics will come into play is in the answer to the question, “What do we do about it?” However, if we at least all start from the same baseline, we have grounds for discussion.
