Better each day

Ashleigh is doing so good that they plan to remove the ventilator around Wednesday and have her in her own room by the end of the week!

The doctors told Mom they suspect the root cause of Ashleigh’s troubles since Christmas is dehydration. Yes, dehydration. Even though they monitor the fluids and nutrition going in they have had to put her on high doses of the diuretic Lasix because of fluid retention. But apparently those dosages of Lasix removed too much fluid. So the theory is that when she gets dehydrated her chemistry levels go haywire, which in turn leads to increased risk of infection (like her EB virus at Christmastime or her staph infection a few weeks ago – both of which led to septic shock). Let’s pray that the doctors have correctly identified dehydration as the root cause and that they can now fix it!
