O Mamma Mia!

About a month ago, I was reading the news and came across an article about a movie version of the hit broadway musical, Mamma Mia!, and I decided to send an e-mail to Dad, Sean, and Sam about it:

I just read in this morning’s IMDb news that they are working on a film version of Mamma Mia! Meryl Streep is currently slated to play Donna.

You know, “I Have a Dream” to see this musical, but “Knowing Me, Knowing You,” it’s going to be really difficult to be a “Super Trouper” and wait that long. But at least this way, it won’t cost us near as much “Money, Money, Money” to see the show–we’ll both be able to see it for as much as only “One of Us” would have been able to before. You know dad, just “The Day Before You Came,” I was telling Sam that “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do” want to see that musical–and I have wanted to for “So Long,” and hopefully this will be “Our Last Summer” that we’ll have to endure without seeing it.

About 10 minutes after I sent that, Dad calls and asked when the traveling troupe for Mamma Mia! was going to be in Wichita and asked if he could buy us tickets. Not one to turn down a free night at the theatre, I said “Sure!” and he got online and ordered tickets right away.

Well, we finally used those tickets yesterday and saw the show here in Wichita at the Century II Concert Hall. It was a blast, and the performance was great, despite having 4.5 understudies (one guy only did half the show and was replaced at intermission). It was not exactly what I would call “wholesome” “Christian” entertainment, but the music of ABBA was great, and the actors were solid. There’s nothing better than seeing a white-haired man in his 70′s or 80′s waving his arms to “Waterloo.” A good time was had by all.

Thanks a million, Dad!!
